Dallas, TX (February 18, 2026) – A fatal collision involving a pedestrian ocurred on Wednesday morning, February 18. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene near the Hampton Road exit following reports of the incident.

According to deputies, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while on the highway. Despite the arrival of emergency medical teams, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.  The identity of the deceased has not been released.

The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the location and is reportedly cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

Our hearts go out to the loved ones of the person who lost their life.

What rights do families have after a fatal pedestrian accident in Texas?

Families often have the right to file a wrongful death claim to help manage the sudden financial burdens of funeral costs and loss of support. While highway pedestrian cases are complex, Texas law still requires drivers to maintain a proper lookout, which can sometimes result in shared liability. This is why getting legal advice can be key.

In this case, the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating, which is important. Investigators will look at the vehicle's "black box" data, the driver's phone records, and lighting conditions to determine if the crash was avoidable.

Even if no criminal charges are filed by the Sheriff’s Department, the civil standards for a wrongful death claim are different. A family can still seek support through the driver’s insurance policy if it is proven the driver failed to take reasonable action to avoid the collision.

The sudden loss of a family member in an accident is traumatic and leaves many unanswered questions. Beyond the emotional toll, families are often faced with immediate costs and complex legal paperwork from insurance companies. Having legal team help you gather the official accident report and witness statements can take the pressure off. This ensures that your family's interests are protected while you focus on grieving and honoring your loved one.
