Authorities have identified the two men who were killed in a Thursday evening crash on Frankford Road in north Dallas as Chad Smith, 45, and Sam Arlia, 49, according to police and family members.
The fatal collision occurred around 6:17 p.m. on February 5 in the 7900 block of Frankford Road. Initial reports indicated two vehicles collided, causing one car to leave the roadway and strike pedestrians waiting on the sidewalk.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the drivers and occupants of both vehicles were also hurt in the collision. A 92-year-old woman and a 79-year-old woman were in one car; the 92-year-old was treated and released with minor injuries, while information about the 79-year-old’s condition was limited. The other vehicle’s driver, a 23-year-old man, was also taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation into the crash remains active as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the deadly outcome.
We extend our sincere condolences to the families of Chad Smith and Sam Arlia during this difficult time.
What Happens Next After a Fatal Pedestrian Accident?
After a fatal pedestrian crash, the investigation often continues for weeks or months as authorities work to fully understand what happened. Police may analyze crash scene evidence, vehicle damage, traffic signal data, and any available surveillance or dash-camera footage. Witness interviews and accident reconstruction can play an important role in determining whether speeding, distraction, impairment, or other factors contributed to the collision. In cases involving multiple vehicles, assigning fault can be especially complex.
At the same time, families are often contacted by insurance companies representing the drivers involved. These insurers may request statements, medical authorizations, or early settlements. While this process may seem routine, families should be aware that insurance investigations are focused on limiting financial exposure.
Consulting with a lawyer can help families understand their rights, avoid providing information that could be misused, and ensure that communications are handled carefully.
Wrongful death claims may help families recover compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and the emotional impact of losing a loved one. Legal guidance can also help ensure deadlines are met and evidence is preserved. Although the legal process cannot replace what was lost, it can provide clarity, accountability, and support during an overwhelming time.
Legal guidance can also help families avoid early mistakes when communicating with insurers and ensure important evidence is preserved. While no legal action can undo the loss, understanding available options may help families seek accountability and financial stability during an extremely difficult time.
