What Investigators Look for in Wrong-Way Highway Crashes in Dallas, TX
Wrong-way crashes on major highways like U.S. Highway 75 are among the most serious roadway incidents, and investigators work quickly to determine how a driver entered traffic in the wrong direction. These collisions often happen at high speeds and leave little to no time for evasive action, which is why they frequently result in severe or fatal injuries.
In cases like the Central Expressway crash, investigators may review exit ramp design, signage visibility, roadway lighting, and nearby traffic patterns to understand whether environmental factors contributed to the wrong-way entry. Surveillance cameras from highway systems, nearby businesses, and traffic monitoring equipment can also provide key timeline details.
Toxicology testing is commonly conducted in fatal wrong-way crashes to determine whether impairment played a role. Alcohol or drug involvement is one of the most frequent contributing factors, though medical emergencies, confusion, or driver disorientation can also lead to wrong-way travel.
Also, vehicle damage patterns and crash reconstruction analysis help authorities determine the angle and speed of impact. This information can be critical in confirming how long the wrong-way vehicle was traveling before the collision occurred.
Because wrong-way crashes often involve multiple victims and severe outcomes, investigators also work closely with emergency responders and medical teams to document injuries and outcomes for official reports.
Families affected by these types of crashes may face sudden emotional and financial challenges, especially when a loved one suffers catastrophic injuries or death. Medical bills, funeral costs, and lost income can quickly become overwhelming without proper support and guidance.
