Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash on I-20 in Dallas Co., TX

Dallas County, TX (July 18, 2026) –Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that took the life of a commercial truck driver on Wednesday, July 15.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office took Elana Kaye Peronis into custody after securing an arrest warrant for Collision Involving Death.

The fatal crash occurred around 12:22 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 20 when a passing vehicle struck an 18-wheeler driver who was outside his truck on the shoulder making repairs. The driver fled the scene.

Investigators later linked the crash to a damaged company van after the business owner recognized matching damage.

Evidence collected from the vehicle helped establish probable cause, and Peronis was arrested and booked into the Dallas County Jail.

The identities of the deceased truck driver and the second motorist who arrived to assist him have not been publicly disclosed.
