The victim was taken to a hospital but later died from their injuries.

Watson was taken into custody at the scene and transported to a hospital for evaluation. After receiving treatment, he was booked into jail and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

We extend our sincere condolences to the victim's family and loved ones during this difficult time.

What Families Should Know About Drunk Driving Crashes on Dallas, TX Highways

When a fatal crash in Dallas involves an alleged intoxicated driver, surviving family members may have legal options that extend beyond the criminal charges filed by prosecutors.

Criminal cases focus on whether a law was broken and whether penalties should be imposed, while civil claims generally focus on the financial and personal losses suffered by surviving relatives. These are separate legal matters, and in many situations, families do not have to wait for a criminal case to end before exploring possible civil legal action.

Drunk driving crashes often leave families facing sudden uncertainty during an already painful and emotional period. In the aftermath of a fatal collision, relatives may be contacted by insurance companies, investigators, or other parties while they are still trying to process the loss of a loved one.

At the same time, many families are also forced to handle practical matters such as funeral planning, financial obligations, transportation concerns, and household responsibilities that unexpectedly change after a death. These challenges can quickly become overwhelming in the days and weeks following a serious crash.

The financial impact of a fatal drunk driving collision can also extend far beyond immediate expenses. Medical bills incurred before a death, funeral and burial costs, lost household income, and the loss of emotional and practical support can create long-term hardship for surviving family members.

In some situations, family members may also face ongoing financial uncertainty tied to childcare responsibilities, mortgage payments, or other daily living expenses that were previously shared with the person who died. The effects of this type of loss can continue affecting families for months or even years after the collision.

Because every fatal accident involves different circumstances, legal questions often arise regarding what steps may be available and what evidence could become important later. Police reports, toxicology results, witness statements, surveillance footage, medical records, and accident reconstruction findings may all play a role in evaluating a potential claim.

Awrongful death attorney may help surviving family members understand possible civil legal options and explain what compensation may be available depending on the facts involved.
